CAMH's 25-year transformation
Over the past 25 years, donor support has helped transform CAMH’s Queen Street campus from a once-walled institution into an open, connected campus that supports recovery, advances discovery and welcomes the surrounding community. Today, the Temerty Discovery Centre and the Waverley House Secure Care & Recovery Building are bringing the fourth and final phase of this vision to life.
The Waverley House Secure Care & Recovery Building will provide modern, evidence-based forensic care for people living with mental illness who are in contact with the justice system. It will replace spaces that were not designed for patients’ needs or recovery and expand programming to better support patients with dignity. Construction is progressing toward completion in 2029.
The Temerty Discovery Centre is where the future of mental health research will take shape. Purpose-built to attract the world’s best scientists, it will be a hub where ambitious ideas can thrive and discoveries can move more quickly into improved care. It will allow us to fuel more change, faster than ever before in priority areas like brain science, health equity, late-life mental health, precision medicine and youth mental health.
Construction on the Temerty Discovery Centre remains on track for its planned opening in late 2027. In June 2026, CAMH celebrated a major topping-off milestone with the placement of the final steel beams on both the Centre and the Waverley House Secure Care & Recovery Building. Once open, the Centre will bring researchers together across disciplines and strengthen the connection between discovery and care. It will be a place where CAMH researchers can search for answers that don’t yet exist.
Construction on these new buildings is going ahead thanks to generous contributions from CAMH donors through the historic No One Left Behind campaign, alongside support from the Government of Ontario. Every building on our campus represents the support of our dedicated community of donors who stand with CAMH and have committed to helping us change the future of mental health care. Together, these new spaces will help shape the future of care and discovery at CAMH for generations.
