HOW WE WORK
Our work is Indigenous-led, culturally grounded and shaped by relationships. We recognize First Nations, Inuit and Métis as distinct Peoples with distinct histories, cultures, rights, knowledge systems and priorities.
We work in relationship with communities, people with lived and living experience, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, Cultural Care Practitioners, service providers and partners. We seek to share power, honour Indigenous knowledge and ways of knowing, build on community strengths and support self-determination, while ensuring that the work we undertake is meaningful and accountable to the people it is intended to serve.
SHKAABE MAKWA'S PRINCIPLES
Reciprocity: We enter into relationships that have a mutual exchange of support, resources, and knowledge in order to uphold fairness and care with all our relations.
Collaboration: We nurture strong relationships by working with our colleagues, communities, and cocreators – listening, learning, and walking alongside – to achieve shared goals and outcomes.
Transparency: We are committed to honest, open, and clear communication in all our relationships. We share information in a way that builds trust and honours our responsibilities.
Respect: We value and appreciate the gifts, talents, and inherent worth of everyone with whom we work, and treat all our relationships in a good way to advance shared outcomes.
