We are inviting older adults living with Alzheimer's disease who experience symptoms such as low mood, loss of interest , sleep or appetite changes, or reduced energy to participate in a virtual research study. The study takes place entirely from home (no in-person visits). Participants will either experience nature scenes using a VR headset or watch nature videos. Over 4 weeks, participants will complete 2 visits per week (~30-60 minutes), short questionnaires and the use of simple devices.
Eligibility Criteria
- Age Range: 50 years or older
- Have been diagnosed with mild to early-moderate Alzheimer's disease (including mixed dementia)
- Experience changes in mood or physical symptoms including one or more of:
- Low mood or sadness
- Loss of interest or pleasure in activities
- Fatigue or low energy
- Changes in sleep
- Changes in appetite
- Difficulty concentrating
- Feeling slowed down or restless
- Feel comfortable using basic technology, such as a tablet or headset with support
- Have access to Wi-Fi and a device such as a cell phone or computer for online video sessions. All other required devices will be provided at no cost.
- Have someone available to be present during all study sessions
You would not be able to take part if you:
- Have a medical or mental health condition that is currently unstable and could affect your ability to safely participate.
- Have vision or hearing difficulties that may affect participation despite the use of available supports such as glasses or hearing aids.
- Experience active thoughts of self-harm
